VSCode

VS Code Setup

Visual Studio Code can connect to MCP servers using MCP-compatible extensions.

How to Find the Configuration File

The configuration file location depends on your setup. Choose one of these options:

Create the file in your project root:

Windows:

notepad .vscode\mcp.json

macOS/Linux:

nano .vscode/mcp.json

If the .vscode folder doesn't exist, create it first.

Option 2: User Settings

The user settings location varies by OS:

  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Code\User\settings.json or %APPDATA%\Code\User\mcp.json
  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Code/User/settings.json or ~/Library/Application Support/Code/User/mcp.json
  • Linux: ~/.config/Code/User/settings.json or ~/.config/Code/User/mcp.json

Configuration

Production Setup

{
  "servers": {
    "akashic-mcp": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://akashic-mcp.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Configure your MCP token in the client (e.g. Authorization: Bearer). Create or copy the token from Settings.

Steps

  1. Install a compatible MCP extension for VSCode (search for "MCP" or "Model Context Protocol" in Extensions)
  2. Create .vscode/mcp.json in your project root (or configure in user/workspace settings)
  3. Add the configuration JSON above
  4. Configure your MCP token (Bearer) in the client
  5. Reload VSCode window (Ctrl+Shift+P → "Reload Window")
  6. Authorize when prompted for authentication on first tool use

Troubleshooting

  • Extension not found: Search for "MCP" or "Model Context Protocol" in the VSCode marketplace
  • Configuration not loading: Check JSON syntax and file location
  • Connection errors: Verify the endpoint URL and network connectivity
  • Authentication required: Complete the OAuth flow when prompted

TRAE Setup

TRAE is an AI-powered code editor that supports MCP servers. The configuration format is identical to VS Code.

How to Find the Configuration File

The configuration file location depends on your setup. Choose one of these options:

Create the file in your project root:

Windows:

notepad .vscode\mcp.json

macOS/Linux:

nano .vscode/mcp.json

If the .vscode folder doesn't exist, create it first.

Option 2: User Settings

The user settings location varies by OS:

  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Code\User\settings.json or %APPDATA%\Code\User\mcp.json
  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Code/User/settings.json or ~/Library/Application Support/Code/User/mcp.json
  • Linux: ~/.config/Code/User/settings.json or ~/.config/Code/User/mcp.json

Configuration

Production Setup

    "akashic-mcp": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://akashic-mcp.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Configure your MCP token in the client (e.g. Authorization: Bearer). Create or copy the token from Settings.

Steps

  1. Install a compatible MCP extension for TRAE (search for "MCP" or "Model Context Protocol" in Extensions)
  2. Create .vscode/mcp.json in your project root (or configure in user/workspace settings)
  3. Add the configuration JSON above
  4. Configure your MCP token (Bearer) in the client
